Spring
Spring-the time of year when the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the rain awaken the earth. The time when colourful blossoms, flowers and songbirds brighten up our back yards and memories of winter fade slowly away.
Spring on the farm is the time when the animals can savour the sweet new grass. The young ones run and play by their mothers' side. Crops that have protected the soil from the winter rains are turned under to provide nourishment for new plantings. Farmers begin the work of growing food.
How can you bring the excitement of spring to your classroom?
- With the longer days you can germinate seeds on the windowsill; you can transplant those seeds to a raised bed on the school grounds and grow a salad garden for your students.
- You could start a worm-composting bin right in your classroom or just outside your door.
- You could take your students on a Farm Tour.
- You could make ice-cream and include fresh berries.
- You may want to create Mason Bee boxes and hang them outside of your classroom.
