2009 Outstanding Teacher Award
BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation is offering a $250.00 Teaching Award for 2009.
Do you or someone you know, teach students about sustainable agriculture and food systems in British Columbia? Or do you help students make informed choices about the food they eat, food safety, the importance of our food supply and agricultural products? Or do you help students understand the range of careers in the agri-food system? Recognize and honour teachers who make outstanding contributions to agriculture education in BC by nominating them today. Self-nominations are encouraged.
AITC will award the fifth annual Teaching Award in 2009, to recognize a British Columbia teacher in the K-12 grades who demonstrates outstanding leadership and innovation in agriculture education. The Foundation is accepting nominations for this award with the deadline for nominations on April 15, 2009. The award recipient will be recognized and celebrated at the Annual Donor Recognition Event in June 2009.
Nominations for this award must include a completed nomination form (Application Form PDF) and may include materials such as audio-visuals, unit or lesson plans that illustrate the nominee's teaching.
All nominations are to be received by 4:00pm on April 15, 2009 at the AITC office (the address is on the application form).
Nominations will be judged on the following criteria:
- Innovative. The nominee demonstrates a novel approach through activities, philosophy and strategies designed for teaching. Creativity is apparent. Teaching addresses current curriculum priorities and learning outcomes.
- Leadership. Teaching approach(es) developed by the nominee are clearly and completely described. They are available in a form that will inspire other educators or are able to be used or adapted by others.
- Pedagogically Sound. Teaching encourages critical thinking, inclusivity, social action, and consideration of diverse perspectives on issues. Includes recent and accurate information.
- Promotes the Goals of AITC. Teaching is exemplary in promoting awareness and understanding of sustainable agriculture and food systems, or career in agriculture, or encouraging students to make informed decisions about food choices, food safety, protection of agricultural resources, or understanding the importance of our own food supply and other agricultural products.
- Impact. Evidence is presented of impact of teaching on students, other teachers and/or community stakeholders.
$250.00 will be granted to the teacher that best meets these criteria.
